Job description:
- scientific services in research in the BMBF project “Characterizing and modeling the neural circuits for egocentric and allocentric cognitive maps in humans: data analysis and biophysical models”
The project is part of an international collaboration with the Universities of Bonn (Prof. Lukas Kunz) and Leipzig (Prof. Andrej Bicanski) as well as Columbia University (Prof. Josh Jacobs)
- Development of a toolbox for analyzing single-cell measurements from the human medial temporal lobe
- Investigation of the neural mechanisms underlying cognitive maps, spatial (and episodic) memory, and learning
- Establishment and further development of computer models of neural networks
- Mathematical analysis of the dynamics of neural networks
- Programming and numerical simulations of neural networks
- Development of quantitative model predictions and collaboration on experimental tests
- Authoring of scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals
- Presentation of results at national and international conferences
Requirements:
- completed scientific university degree in physics, biology, computer science, computational neuroscience, or a closely related discipline
- Knowledge of modeling neural systems and the underlying biophysics
- Knowledge of computational neuroscience and mathematical methods
- Experience in handling neurophysiological data
- Advanced programming skills in Python
- Knowledge of mathematics and statistics
- very good command of written and spoken English (at least B2)
- strong communication and teamwork skills
- Knowledge of the neurobiology of navigation and spatial memory, the structure of the brain, and experience in collaborating with experimental partners are advantageous
